Brian H. Alligood, Esq. - About the Author

For twenty-five years, Brian H. Alligood has provided aggressive representation to employers and employees in North Carolina and Georgia.  Mr. Alligood holds significant expertise representing parties in matters involving claims of workplace discrimination and harassment in lawsuits filed under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as well as analogous suits pursued under state law theories such as negligent hiring and supervision and public policy based claims.  He works extensively with the complex body of statutory and regulatory provisions and the vast body of case law decided under Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Mr. Alligood also represents parties in claims of unlawful retaliation, including retaliation claims asserted under the aforementioned federal statutes, as well as claims pursued under the North Carolina Retaliatory Employment Discrimination Act, and a variety of whistleblower claims in this growing area of federal law.

Unlike most law firms in the state, we do not categorically wed ourselves exclusively to one side or the other in employment disputes.  While we regularly defend employers against baseless charges and lawsuits, we recognize that legitimate claims arise in this complex legal arena, and we therefore represent truly aggrieved individuals with equal zeal and effectiveness.  Our clients have found that the firm’s willingness to represent parties on either side of employment disputes indeed enhances our effectiveness as we go beyond the “cookie cutter” and “standard playbook” approaches that law firms tend to adopt when approaching employment disputes from but a single, rote perspective.  In short, our ability to assess the entire picture, from the viewpoint of both sides, enables us to provide more comprehensive and candid counsel, as well as more effective advocacy and representation to both employers and employees alike.

Mr. Alligood holds extensive experience with actual courtroom trials in this area of the law.  We do not accept an employment case with the expectation that it will be decided by either a dispositive motion or settlement.  While we explore and, where appropriate, pursue these options, we stand fully prepared to take each employment matter forward to trial or hearing as necessary, and our ample courtroom experience serves our clients extremely well in this regard.

We understand that employment disputes are complex matter of extreme importance to businesses and to individual careers alike.  If you or your business has need for aggressive, sophisticated representation in this dynamic field, please contact us today.
